The 14 Gas Speed is a safe ZvP build that focsuses on getting out quick Zerglings with the Metabolic Boost upgrade without hurting your economy. With these Zerglings, you can put early pressure on the Protoss player, containing him inside of his base; if he does not correctly protect his choke point, you can also cause extreme economical damage by sending your Zerglings into his mineral line.
10 Overlord
14 Extractor (3 Drones in Extractor once it finishes)
13 Drone
14 Spawning Pool (Create a Queen once it finishes)
15 Overlord
Once you reach 100 gas, research Metabolic Boost at your Spawning Pool. Continue to pump a mixture of Zerglings and Drones depending on what you scout, and how aggressive or macro oriented you want to play. Your first wave of Zerglings are meant to scout your enemy’s base, harass his mineral line, and to contain him within his base. Make sure to only engage Zealots, Stalkers, and Sentries if you have a superior force. Once you Zerglings have their speed upgrade you should be ready to engage normally.
At around 20 supply, you will want to expand to your natural. At this point forward, 14 Gas Speed can transition into other builds depending on what your opponent is doing, although teching Lair and transitioning into Mutalisks is one of your best bets (after Metabolic Boost and expanding, use your next 100 gas for Lair).
Tips:
- 4 Zerlings will defeat 1 Zealot
- 1 Zealot will defeat 3 Zerglings
- Attack moving into Probes will not work if Zealots, Stalkers, etc are nearby and the Probes are not attacking back(your Zerglings will target the combat units instead). You will need to shift+right click the Probes in order to take them out.
Almost all build orders are a rough estimation and can usually be adapted depending on your enemy’s actions. ALWAYS scout your opponent and adjust your build accordingly.
